Project Description

POSTER SERIES: FORRÓ FOR ALL

POSTER SERIES PROMOTING A FESTIVAL OF FORRÓ DANCE CLASSES

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

OBJECTIVE: Create a series of three posters to promote an event called “Forró For All” that consists of an all-day experience with dance lessons. The 3 posters must arise interests among the targeted audience via creative visual methods and also must inform about the details of the festival.

The event is promoted by the Multicultural Center(fictional), an institution that promotes lots of events to foment cultural exchange and also to develop artistic thinking in general. The Multicultural Center allows everyone to be in touch with different types of arts and with all the diversity of the rich cultural area of greater Vancouver.

DESIGN PROCESS

Initial concepts for the 3 posters include images of typical elements of each country: Brazil and Canada, such as cactus, Brazil´s flag and maple leaves. Probably, the posters’ going to have also some typical Cordel pamphlets typefaces such as “Xilosa” or “Xylogravura” and illustrations, shapes and colours, focusing in the dance’s origins and style. Basically, the posters’ going to be based on an artistic illustration called Cordel or Xilogravura, very common in the northeast of Brazil, where this dance (forró) and rhythm has its origins and therefore is more popular. The posters are also going to evoke event season (Fall) and time of event (Morning and Night).

Inspirations and Design Concept

For this design I tried to use the following elements to convey the idea of a Brazilian event happening in Vancouver during the Fall as a part of a multicultural festival:

  • Brazil ’s National Flag Shapes and Colors
  • Cordel Pamphlets
  • Canada: Maple Leaves
  • Event Date – Season: Fall
  • Multicultural Event
  • All-day Event: Morning and Night
